Mechanical engineering and support
Mechanical engineering that understands production lines
BevTech Engineering and Automation has a proven track record of putting our customers’ needs first. Backed by an experienced team of industry trade professionals, we take care of your engineering requirements to the best quality you will find in the industry. From drafting and design to precision machining, fabrication and welding to general maintenance and repairs, we deliver an outcome that meets your needs.
Food and beverage plants are hard on machinery. Lines run fast and often around the clock, equipment is washed down daily, and a worn change part or a failed bearing can stop production. Our fitters, machinists, draftspeople and engineers work on these lines every week, so we design and build with maintenance, hygiene and changeovers in mind.
Our team has worked with Coca Cola Amatil, Lion, CUB, FOODMACH, Agito and Graphic Packaging.
Equipment our mechanical team works on
- Conveyors, guides, transfers and accumulation tables
- Container handling, including can inverter blocks
- Fillers, seamers, labellers and their change parts
- Gearboxes, bearings, shafts and drive trains
- Pumps, valves and process equipment
- Guarding, frames, brackets and machine modifications
Our mechanical engineering services
Mechanical services for manufacturing plants
One team for the whole mechanical scope, from the first idea to a machine back in production.
Research and development
Working through new ideas and production problems with you, from concept and prototypes to a proven solution that is ready to install.
Design and engineering
Mechanical design and drafting for new equipment, modifications and upgrades, with drawings that your maintenance team can use for years.
Project management
Scoping, scheduling, procurement and coordination with other trades, so mechanical work is delivered on time and within the shutdown window.
Conveyor systems
Design, modification and installation of conveyors, guides and transfers that move product reliably and change over quickly.
Fabrication and welding
TIG and MIG welding and fabrication for plant modifications, guarding, frames, brackets and repairs, made in our own workshop.
Precision machining (CNC and manual)
CNC machines, mills and lathes for accurate one-off parts, change parts and short runs, from a single bush to a complete assembly.
Equipment refurbishment
Stripping, inspecting, repairing and rebuilding worn equipment so it runs like new, often for far less than the cost of a replacement.
General maintenance and repairs
Planned maintenance, repairs and fitting work on production equipment, scheduled around your production plan.
Breakdown support
Emergency breakdown assistance when a line stops, backed by a workshop that can make the part you need.
Machine shop, Brisbane
An in house machine shop in Richlands
Our workshop at 25 Silvio St, Richlands is fitted out for the parts and fabrication that production lines need. Because the machine shop sits alongside our engineering and maintenance teams, a part can go from a measurement on site to a finished component without leaving BevTech.
That matters most when time is short. During a shutdown or a breakdown, parts can be made or repaired inside the window, rather than waiting on an outside supplier or an overseas lead time.
- CNC machining for accurate, repeatable parts and short runs.
- Manual mills and lathes for quick one-off parts, repairs and modifications.
- Guillotine and brake press for cutting and folding sheet metal.
- TIG and MIG welding for fabrication, modifications and repairs.
- Drafting and design so every part we make can be drawn, recorded and made again.
Inside the workshop
Machining, fabrication and container handling

Precision machining
Shafts, bushes, rollers, change parts and replacement components machined in house to your drawings or to a sample part.

Milling and one-off parts
Manual and CNC milling for brackets, guides, blocks and modifications, often turned around while your line waits.

Can inverter blocks
Plastic inverter blocks rotate cans, bottles and jars as they travel through a twisted tunnel. They are compact, reliable, a simple replacement for a twisted steel race, and can be made for quick changeovers.
Change parts and repairs
When a worn part stops the line
Many line stoppages come down to a single mechanical part: a cracked guide, a worn star wheel, a failed bearing housing or a broken bracket. Waiting weeks for an original part is expensive, and sometimes the original is no longer made.
Our team can measure the part, draw it up, machine or fabricate a replacement and fit it, often improving the material or design along the way. You end up with a drawing on file, so the next replacement is even faster.
- Measure and draw. We take dimensions from the worn part or the machine and produce a proper drawing.
- Make in house. The part is machined or fabricated in our Richlands workshop.
- Fit and test. Our fitters install the part and check the machine runs correctly.
- Record it. The drawing is kept, ready for the next spare or a planned change.
How we work
From idea to installed and running
Whether it is a new piece of equipment, a line modification or a refurbishment, our process keeps your production in view from start to finish.
- Understand the problem. We look at the equipment, the product, the production pressures and your site rules.
- Design and draft. Concepts and drawings are agreed with you before anything is made.
- Make it in house. Machining, fabrication and welding are done in our own workshop.
- Install and commission. Our fitters install, test and hand over, working with your production team.
- Support it. Drawings, spares advice and breakdown support once the equipment is running.
Electrical and automation
One team for mechanical, electrical and controls
Most machine changes touch more than one trade. Our industrial electricians and automation engineers work alongside our mechanical team, so drives, sensors, PLC changes and machine safety are handled in the same project.
Need people on site?
Fitters, machinists and welders on your roster
If you need a fitter and turner, CNC machinist or welder on site for a shift, a shutdown or a few months, our labour hire and shift cover service supplies the same people who deliver our projects.
Where we work
Mechanical engineering across Brisbane and South East Queensland
Our workshop is in Richlands, in Brisbane’s south west, close to the Ipswich, Logan and Gateway motorways. We support food, beverage and FMCG manufacturers across the region, including:
Eagle Farm, Pinkenba, Hemmant, Murarrie, Northgate, Rocklea, Acacia Ridge, Darra, Wacol, Carole Park, Richlands, Berrinba, Crestmead, Yatala, Ipswich and Logan.
If your plant is further afield in Queensland, talk to us. Planned work such as shutdowns, installs and upgrades can often be arranged anywhere in the state.
FAQs
Mechanical engineering questions
Can you make one-off parts, or only production runs?
Both. A lot of our machining is one-off and short run work: replacement shafts, bushes, brackets, change parts and guides that keep a production line running. Our CNC and manual machines let us choose the fastest sensible way to make each part.
Can you remake a worn or broken part without the original drawings?
Usually, yes. Our team can measure the part, draw it up and machine a replacement, and we can often improve the material or design so it lasts longer. You then have a drawing on file for next time, instead of relying on an overseas supplier.
Do you design and build conveyor systems?
Yes. We design, modify and install conveyor systems for food and beverage lines, including guides, transfers and container handling such as can inverter blocks. Because our automation engineers work alongside our mechanical team, the controls can be sorted at the same time.
Can you work during our shutdown window?
Yes. Shutdowns are where much of our mechanical work happens. With the machine shop in house, parts can be made or repaired inside the shutdown window rather than waiting on outside suppliers. Our free shutdown planning checklist is a good place to start.
Do you offer breakdown support?
Yes. BevTech provides emergency breakdown assistance, and our workshop can turn around urgent repairs and replacement parts when a line is down.
Can you supply fitters and machinists for our site?
Yes. Alongside project work, we supply fitters and turners, CNC machinists and welders through our labour hire and shift cover service, backed by the same engineering team and workshop.
Are you a fitter, machinist or boilermaker?
We are always keen to hear from fitters and turners, CNC machinists, welders and boilermakers with manufacturing experience. See current opportunities at BevTech, or read our guide on how to become a boilermaker.
Need a part made, a machine modified or a line upgraded?
Tell us what you need. Our mechanical team will come back to you with a practical plan and a realistic timeframe.
